When I first witnessed this lady's talent I was at a Guns and Roses concert with my man. It was the concert I'd been anticipating since it was announced that Slash and Axl Rose buried the hatchet and were putting the band back together! Tickets were more than I usually spend, but when I saw that Lenny Kravitz was on the bill that changed EVERYTHING! When we arrived at the stadium, the crowd was quite interesting to say the least! A lot of tattoos, mullets, spiked hair, piercings, tall black hats (paying homage to Slash & his awesome curls) and wild, free looking people. You never know what to expect while attending a rock concert. But I was ready to see it all! I had my hair in full Fro, my maroon Guns N' Roses t-shirt on with jeans...a true fan! (I actually would've worn a Lenny Kravitz t-shirt had I been able to find one!) When we're shown to our seats, we are late and Lenny had already begun rocking. We get our drinks, our food and we're ready to be blown away...we ended up getting more than we bargained for! On the huge screen is when I saw HER! This gorgeous fiery red Fro, full of life! I was instantly inspired! Every time the cameras panned to her (and it panned to her a lot!) I felt so proud of this Natural representing this hair to the rock crowd. Once Lenny's cover of "American Woman" began it was poetic and so fitting! Lenny's set was incredible, albeit too short for my taste! (I could've watched them rock for an entire night!) After the concert was over (Guns N Roses also killed it by the way!) I couldn't stop thinking about this amazing hair! This was NO WIG...I knew it was real! When my friends asked me "So...how'd it go?" I'd talk about how amazing Lenny was, how he sounded better than the recordings, how his band (every single member) looked AMAZING...BUT the background singer with the fiery red hair was always how I'd end the recap. One of my friends blurts out "You should interview her for your channel!" Seed planted. Within minutes I was talking to Jessie about getting together for this interview and she was super kind and gracious to accept! The interview you see is uncut, unscripted and real. We didn't talk too much before the cameras started rolling. We are pretty much getting to know each other while the cameras roll. She was and is so very gracious, warm, generous and kind. I hope you all are inspired by this interview...especially her words regarding self acceptance. One of the main reasons I wanted to interview her was to inspire professionals in the workplace to be brave in wearing their Natural hair. Thank you SO MUCH Jessie for sharing your work experiences with us, your hair products, your hair regimens, your advice and most of all your light. It shines brightly no matter who you're standing behind or who the spotlight is shining on. We see you and what we see is lovely!
